Early Ministry

Father Thomas Carroll was a priest of the Catholic Archdiocese of Melbourne.

During his ministry he served in several Victorian parishes, including:

  • Mansfield

  • Epping

  • Holy Cross Parish, Caulfield South

Sexual Abuse of Children

The Melbourne Catholic Archdiocese has acknowledged that Father Thomas Carroll sexually abused children during his ministry.

The acknowledged abuse included offences against altar boys at Holy Cross Parish, Caulfield South, during the 1950s and 1960s.

Delayed Disclosure

According to the Archdiocese, Father Carroll's offending remained concealed for many years within the Church's internal processes.

Eventually, one of his victims reported the abuse to Victoria Police.

Death Before Criminal Investigation

By the time the complaint was made, Father Thomas Carroll had already died.

As a result, Victoria Police were unable to commence criminal proceedings or bring the allegations before a court.

Note: This Father Thomas Carroll of the Melbourne Archdiocese should not be confused with other Australian Catholic priests of the same name.
