Fr Bertram Richard Adderly
Adderley served in the Bunbury Catholic diocese, Western Australia. He committed sexual crimes against boys in the 1960s and '70s. Adderley is deceased. Bertram Adderley previous to ordination, had been a lay teacher at the Christian Brothers' Aquinas College in Perth in the 1950s. He served as a priest in the Bunbury diocese from 1959 to 1974. In the early 1960s Fr Adderley was in charge of Catholic education in the Bunbury diocese. In 1965, following complaints about sexual abuse, he was assigned to parishes at Mannup and Manjimup. In 1975, he left parish ministry, recorded as being on leave, a term frequently utilized when perpetrators were sent to serve in ministry elsewhere. There are numerous incidences recorded of this common practice. Perth's Catholic archbishop consented to pay 2.45 million compensation after the victim Peter, now in his 50s, described being raped by Father Bertram Adderley in 1978 and 1980. The church had been made aware of Adderly’s abuse on numerous occasions and covered it up.
